The River is a church where the Word is preached without compromise so that people grow up to be strong disciples in Christ.

Mission, vision & core values

The River’s visions is to see this land flooded with the knowlegde of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.

This vision is founded on three pillars.

Reaching the Lost
Millions of people are far from God. We want to reach them by sharing the Good News through every possible channel so that they can come close to God. Every Saturday we go on the streets of Amsterdam with a large group of believers to spread this Good News. Every week we hear powerful testimonies of what God is doing on the streets of Amsterdam.

Reviving the Church
We want to be a church where you not only receive knowledge about God, but where you can meet Him personally. During our services and conferences, we give the Holy Spirit all the room to move freely.

Raising up Leaders
There are many people who desperately need God. That is why we are working hard to raise up leaders so they can take their place and make a difference in this world.

Whether it is one of our Sunday services, events or even our Home Groups; we want to be a place where you feel welcome, but where you are also equipped to reach your full potential.
Would you like to experience this for yourself? Come visit us during one of our services!

What we believe

  • The one true God

We believe in God, He has revealed Himself as the eternal, self-existent “I AM,” the Creator of the universe and the Redeemer of humanity; and as trinity, manifesting Himself in Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

    Deuteronomy 6:4
    Exodus 3: 14
    Isaiah 43:10-11
    Isaiah 48:16
    Matthew 28:19
    Luke 3:22
    I John 5:7

  • The Divine inspiration of the Bible

We believe in the Bible, the Holy Spirit-inspired Word of God, and accept it as the foundation and only absolute guideline and absolute testing framework for the functioning of personal lives and the church.

    2 Timothy 3:16
    1 Corinthians 2:13

  • The Lord Jesus Christ

We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, the savior of men, given by the Holy Spirit, born through the Virgin Mary, fully God and fully man.

    Matthew 1:23
    John 5:22-23
    John 1:1, 18
    Hebrews 1:1-13

  • The death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ

We believe that Christ died for our sins, that He was buried and rose again from the dead on the third day and appeared in person to His disciples. We believe in the bodily ascension of Jesus and His glorification.

    1 Corinthians 15:1-4
    Romans 4:25
    John 14:2-3
    1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

  • Original sin and fall of man

We believe that the first man, Adam, escaped from the grace of God through disobedience and thus sin came into the world and through sin death. Adam’s transgression not only brought the guilt of natural death upon man, but also eternal separation from God.

    Genesis 1:26; 2:17; 3:6-24

  • The redemption of man

We believe that man’s only hope of redemption and salvation from the power of sin is through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12; Romans 5:8-12; Romans 6:23; James 1:21; Ephesians 2:8). When a person confesses that Jesus is his or her Savior and the Son of the living God, there is deliverance from the curse that sin had brought upon man, it is by faith and by grace.

    John 14:6
    Hebrews 10:20
    Galatians 3:13

  • The baptism in water

We believe in the command to baptize by total immersion in water as given in the Bible. All who repent of their sins and believe in Jesus Christ of Nazareth as Lord and Savior should be baptized. This is a declaration to the world that they are united with Christ in His death and raised with Him in new life.

    Matthew 28:19
    Acts 10:47, 48
    Romans 6:4

  • The baptism in the Holy Spirit

We believe in the baptism with the Holy Spirit following salvation, with scriptural evidence of speaking in other tongues as prompted by the Spirit (Acts 2:1-4; 8:14-17 and 10:44-46; Galatians 3:14-15). This experience is distinct from, and a consequence of, regeneration.

    Acts 8: 12-17; 10:44, 48; 19:1-6

  • The gifts of the Spirit

We believe in the operation of the gifts of the Spirit in the church as they were visible in the first church in the book of Acts. These gifts are as the Spirit wills.

    1 Corinthians 12

  • The Church

We believe that the church is the body of Christ, the dwelling place of God through the Holy Spirit with the Divine commission for fulfilling its great task. Every believer born of the Spirit is part of the general church of the firstborn, who are enrolled in heaven (Ephesians 1:22; Hebrews 12:23).

It is the responsibility of the church to:

    a. be an instrument to take the gospel into the world and make all nations disciples of Jesus Christ (Acts 1:8; Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:15,16).

    b. to be a common body in which God can be worshiped (1 Corinthians 12:18-28).

    c. to be a channel of God’s purpose, to form a community of saints perfected in the image of His Son (Ephesians 4:11-16; 1 Corinthians 12:28).

  • The life of a believer

We believe that with the baptism in the Holy Spirit comes the covering with power, a life of sanctification and service, and the fruit of the Holy Spirit visible in the lives of believers.

    Luke 24:49
    Acts 1:4, 8
    1 Corinthians 12:1-31

  • The communion

We believe in the table of the Lord; the holy communion, as commanded by the Lord Jesus Christ before His death and resurrection.

    1 Corinthians 11:23-32

  • Eternity

We believe in eternal life for believers (John 5:24 and 3:16) and eternal punishment for unbelievers and in the reality and person of Satan and eternal judgment for him and his angels.

    Matthew 25:41
    Mark 9:43-48
    Revelation 20:10-15
